The international transmission of COVID-19 has likely flipped your {regular|typical|daily] schedule all over the place.

When things feel uncertain you can take peace in knowing your house is your safe area. You’re likely spending more time there nowadays. That’s why your indoor air quality is now more important than ever.

Did you know we can install indoor air quality products in your house that provide hospital-grade filtration? These products can clear bacteria from your air, as well as allergens, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Up-to-date residences are securely sealed, which is fantastic for energy efficiency. But it also means your home’s air can be worse than the air outside. In fact, the EPA says it can be two to five times worse than outdoors. This can be troublesome since we spend about 90% of our days indoors.

There are many factors that can contribute to poor indoor air quality, such as cleaning products and air fresheners. These can cause headaches and irritate allergies and asthma.

There are a few actions you can take to enhance your air quality. Some include upgraded air filters, an air purification system or an ultraviolet (UV) germicidal light.

Not sure which option is right for your residence? Our knowledgeable pros can complete an indoor air quality audit. Based off of the results, we can then suggest the best option for your household’s distinctive needs.

Air Filtration

When browsing air filters, you should look at the MERV rating, or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This assesses how successfully it filters pollutants.

One of the most average and most economical filters, flat fiberglass filters, rank between 1 and 4 on the MERV scale. Pleated filters are a little bit better, graded between 8 and 12.

We advise buying at minimum MERV 13, like the HC13 Media Air Cleaner, for the most ideal effect. This filter delivers cleaner air while lowering energy use.

High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are deemed the best in air filtration, since they’re typically installed in hospitals. They’re effective at trapping 99.97–99.99% of indoor pollutants, like pollen, pet dander and smoke.

Air Purification

Lennox has some of the most advanced air purification units you can purchase. PureAir™ S and Healthy Climate™ PureAir Air Purification Systems offer hospital-grade filtration while taking care of all categories of indoor air contaminants.

This powerful equipment can wipe out:

  • 99.9% of allergens, including pollen, dust and pet dander.
  • 95% of bacteria-sized particles, like ones that cause strep throat.
  • 50% of VOCs and odors within 24 hours.

UV Germicidal Lights

A UV germicidal light is installed on the inside of your HVAC equipment. Its powerful rays eliminate bacteria and mold within seconds.

If your family struggles with allergies or asthma, this equipment could offer relief. Especially if you are in an extremely hot part of the country where bacteria and mold flourish.

This light also offers an additional advantage for your HVAC unit. It might help it run for a greater period of time and heat and cool more efficiently, since it keeps the internal pieces clean.

Our air quality engineers advise installing one of these lights with an improved filter, such as our Carbon Clean 16® Media Air Cleaner, for optimal effect. This filter provides industry-leading MERV 16 filtration plus carbon-coated fibers to trap particles in your house’s air. It does all of this without decreasing your comfort system’s airflow.

Whole-Home Humidifiers

Acquiring correct humidity in your house might help keep your family from getting sick during the winter. It can assist with sore throats, itchy skin and cracked lips, amidst added cold weather annoyances.

If you don’t know what your home’s humidity percentage is, we’ll determine it while we do your indoor air quality audit. While the range fluctuates based on outdoor temperatures, HVAC experts typically recommend keeping it between 40–60 percent.

You can reach this optimal range by installing a whole-home humidifier. This system generally accompanies your furnace or air handler to deliver the right level of humidity across your house. Some models, like the Healthy Climate® Whole-Home Power Humidifier, contain an incorporated fan to spread humidity when your comfort system isn’t running.

*Based on in-duct testing that shows Healthy Climate® filters reduce airflow restriction. Greater restriction of airflow creates a greater load on a unit’s fan motor, increasing energy consumption.
